Abstract: During the most recent legislative session, the Rhode Island General Assembly amended many existing statutes that will have an impact on negligence claims and defenses thereof, including: R.I. Gen. Laws section 9-1-32 (“Effect of alteration of product after sale”); R.I. Gen. Laws section 10-6-3, 10-6-4 and 10-6-7 (Chapter 10-6-1 et seq. "Contribution Among Joint Tortfeasors"); R.I. Gen. Laws section (Chapter 10-7-1 et seq. "Death By Wrongful Act") and others impacting insurance and coverage requirements. It will be important for defense attorneys to be aware of and navigate these changes.
